I Armored Corps was a World War II corps of the United States Army. The corps made landfall in Morocco during Operation Torch as the Western Task Force under the command of Lieutenant General George S. Patton, the first all-U.S. force to enter the European war. Following the successful defeat of the Wehrmacht under General Erwin Rommel in North Africa, I Armored Corps was redesignated the Seventh United States Army on 10 July 1943 while at sea en route to the Allied invasion of Sicily as the spearhead of Operation Husky. ==History== * Established – 15 July 1940 – at Fort Knox, Kentucky under the command of Major-General Adna R.
